Snow in July
On Sunday (7/3/05) we took our trip up Pike's Peak. We road the Cog Train up the mountain. I must say that one of the most frustrating things about all of our tourist stops in Colorado Springs was the lack of useful information. Most of the places we went did not provide the essential information like costs, times, and schedules. Fortunately before we left I had printed off some things from the Internet.
So off we went to Pike's Peak. We were all thinking that the trip would take a grand total of 2 hours or so. 30 minutes up, some time on top, and then another 30 minutes down. LOL. Whatever. The trip up the mountain took an hour and ten minutes or more. We had 40 minutes at the summit and then had the return trip back down the mountain. It would have been nice to know that!
I had so much fun with Ava on the train on the way up and down. We looked out the window and named different things and talked about going up the mountain in a train. She was so good and it was so much fun to spend the trip with her (and her parents and my fiance of course!)
When we got to the top it was cold...dang cold! Of course...wherever there is snow on the ground in July it must be cold! Thankfully the man that took my reservation warned me to make sure and bring a coat because it would be cold at the summit. I cannot imagine traveling up the mountain the middle of winter when there is snow at the bottom of the mountain too!
